DOVER, DE --The Delaware State Hornets rallied to score six in the ninth inning and walked it off on senior Chris Amparo's four-run home run off of Charlie Cost to pick up the 8-5 victory over the Sacred Heart Pioneers Saturday.
Freshman Michael Lane (0-0) picked up the victory out of the bullpen for Delaware State (14-17, ). The right-hander went three innings, giving up three runs, all of them earned, on two hits, allowing three walks and striking out five. Sophomore Kieran Etwaru also made an impact on the mound for the Hornets, starting the ballgame and throwing six innings, giving up two runs, zero earned, on four hits, with two walks and five strikeouts.
In the batter's box, the Hornets were paced by Amparo, who went 2-for-4 on the day with a home run, a walk and five RBI. Senior Jancarlos Colon put together a standout performance at the plate as well, going 2-for-3 with a walk and two RBI. Freshman Jaryn Sample also helped out for Delaware State, putting together two hits in five trips to the plate while adding a double.
The Hornets put runs on the scoreboard first, starting the scoring in the fourth inning. Delaware State got an RBI single from Amparo, scoring Sample from third base.
The Pioneers failed to push any runs across before the Hornets offense got back to their scoring ways the next inning. Delaware State scored once on an RBI single off the bat of Colon, which brought the score to 2-0 in favor of the Hornets.
Sacred Heart then rallied to take a 5-2 lead before Delaware State scored six runs in the bottom half of the ninth to grab the win, walking it off on Amparo's grand slam off of Cost. Sacred Heart was led offensively by Dante D?Amor, who went 2-for-4 with a home run and three RBI.
