DOVER, DE --Though they had plenty of opportunities, Delaware State had a hard time cashing them in, leaving 10 Hornets on base in a 9-2 loss at the hands of the Wagner Seahawks on Friday.
Freshman Brooks Kendall (0-0) took the loss on the mound for Delaware State (1-8, ).
Senior Kodai Yaoita led the way offensively for the Hornets, going 1-for-3 in the ballgame with a walk and an RBI. Senior Jancarlos Colon compiled a standout day at the plate as well, going 1-for-3 with a walk and an RBI. Sophomore Evan Bouldin also chipped in, going 2-for-5 for Delaware State.
HOW IT HAPPENED
Trailing 1-0, the Hornets first put runs on the board in the fourth inning. Senior Krew Bouldin came across to score the lone run of the inning for Delaware State and get them on the board.
The Seahawks then scored four runs to retake their advantage heading into the seventh inning, when the Hornets responded by getting back on the scoreboard themselves. Delaware State scored once on an RBI single off the bat of Yaoita, which tightened the Seahawks lead to 5-2. The Hornets were unable to get any closer, as Wagner added four runs to their tally on the way to a 9-2 final. The Hornets out-hit the Seahawks at a 10-9 clip. Wagner was led offensively by junior A Serrano, who went 3-for-4 with a home run and four RBI. Junior F Wright led the Seahawks pitching staff, throwing five innings of one-run ball.
