GAME 2 | Coppin State 7, Delaware State 2
HANOVER, Md. -- Freshman Jaryn Sample collected three hits, but the Delaware State Hornets fell to the Coppin State Eagles 7-2 Sunday.
Junior Brandon Hatch (0-2) took the loss on the mound for Delaware State (4-14, 3-6). The right-hander went three innings, giving up two runs, one earned, on two hits, allowing one walk and striking out two. Freshman Eddie Del was a bright spot out of the bullpen, going 1.1 shutout innings without allowing a hit, walking one and striking out one.
In addition to his three hits, Sample had a triple and an RBI to lead the Hornets. Senior Chris Amparo put together a noteworthy day at the plate as well, going 1-for-3 with a home run, a walk and an RBI. Senior K. Bouldin also chipped in for Delaware State, putting together two hits in four trips to the plate.
The Hornets put runs on the scoreboard first, starting the scoring in the fourth inning. Amparo put Delaware State on the board with a one-out solo home run off freshman Kaden Straily.
The Eagles then rallied to score four runs and take a 4-1 lead before the Hornets got back on the board in the seventh. Delaware State scored a run on an RBI triple off the bat of Sample, scoring freshman Cameron Coco, which brought the score to 4-2 in favor of the Eagles. The Hornets were unable to get any closer, as Coppin State added three runs to their tally on the way to a 7-2 final. The Hornets out-hit the Eagles at a 9-5 clip. Coppin State was led offensively by senior Brody Black, who went 1-for-3 with a home run and an RBI. Straily led the Eagles pitching staff, throwing five innings of one-run ball.
