DOVER, Del. --The Delaware State Hornets had a tough showing on Tuesday, falling to the Navy Midshipmen 17-3 despite the efforts of senior Jancarlos Colon, who went 1-for-3 with a double.
Sophomore Amari Gordon (0-1) got the ball to start for Delaware State (1-11) and took the loss.
Colon led the way offensively for the Hornets, going 1-for-3 in the ballgame with a double and a walk.
HOW IT HAPPENED
The Hornets were trailing 14-0 in the fifth inning when they first put runs on the board. Delaware State's offense had a good inning, putting three runs on the scoreboard. The Hornets were unable to get any closer, as Navy added three runs to their tally on the way to a 17-3 final. The Hornets drew six walks from Navy pitching. Navy was led offensively by senior Zane Raba, who went 2-for-4 with a double and four RBI. Freshman Timmy Virtudes led the Midshipmen pitching staff, throwing three shutout innings.
