DOVER, DE --The Delaware State Hornets fell 4-3 in a 12-inning marathon matchup to the Wagner Seahawks Sunday.
Freshman Brooks Kendall (0-0) took the loss on the mound for Delaware State (1-10, ). Sophomore Kieran Etwaru started the ballgame and went seven innings, surrendering one run on four hits, walking one and striking out seven.
In the batter's box, the Hornets were led by senior Jancarlos Colon, who went 2-for-4 on the day with two walks. Sophomore Evan Bouldin put together a noteworthy day at the dish as well, going 2-for-6 with an RBI. Freshman Wayne Hill also contributed for Delaware State, putting together one hit in five trips to the plate while adding a walk and an RBI.
HOW IT HAPPENED
The Hornets were trailing 1-0 in the fifth inning when they first put runs on the board. Bouldin's run-scoring single highlighted a two-run inning for Delaware State.
The Hornets then held the Seahawks scoreless before expanding their lead in the seventh inning. Colon came across to score the lone run of the inning for Delaware State, which brought the score to 3-1 in favor of the Hornets. The Hornets were unable to hold the lead, as Wagner scored three times over the remaining five innings to grab the 4-3 win. Every Hornets starter reached base safely in the loss. Hornets pitchers combined to strike out 14 Wagner hitters. Colon stole three bases in Sunday's game. Wagner was led offensively by senior C Conniff, who went 2-for-5 with an RBI.
