HORNETS FALL SHORT AT FAIRLEIGH DICKINSON

Hackensack, N.J. (Sep. 25, 2015) --- Jasmine Jackson recorded a season-high 19 kills, but it was not enough in Delaware State's 3-0 loss to Fairleigh Dickinson this evening. The scores were 25-23, 25-19 and 25-22.

Jackson also tallied 13 digs to post her third straight double-double and seventh of the season.

Delaware State's Taylor Marshall led all players with 35 assists, while teammate Alliyah McBean had a match-high 15 digs.

Alex Lolland led a balanced Fairleigh Dickinson attack with nine kills. Maddie Gibbons had eight winners and Savanna Wray collected a team-high 11 digs for the Knights.

In the first set, Delaware State trailed 9-6 before rallying to take the lead. The Hornets scored nine of the next 13 points and opened up a 15-13 lead on a kill by Jackson, who had three winners during the run.

DSU led 20-16 when FDU began to regain control. The Knights scored eight of the next nine points to open up a 24-21 lead.

The Hornets pulled to within 24-23, but FDU won the set on a kill by Lolland.

The second set was tied at 10-10 before the Knights embarked on a 4-0 run to grab the lead for good.

Delaware State nearly overcame a six-point deficit midway through the third set but fell short. FDU opened up a 17-11 lead after an error by the Hornets. DSU answered with a 7-1 run and tied the set at 18-18 on an ace by Jae Jackson. 

The Knights scored the next three points to open up a 21-18 lead, but the Hornets scored the next three to tie the set again (21-21).

FDU (6-8) scored four of the last five points to win the set and match.

Delaware State posted a .171 hitting percentage in the match, recording 44 kills and 23 errors in 123 attacks. The Knights recorded a .261 percentage (39/10/111).

The Hornets had more digs (58-45) and aces (6-3), while FDU led in blocks (10-5) during the match.

Ayanna Lee had a season-high three aces to lead all players in the contest.

Delaware State (2-12) will begin Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference play this Sunday (Sep. 27) at Howard. The match begins at 3 p.m. in Washington, D.C.

The Hornets will play their home opener on Oct. 9 against Coppin State. The Dig Pink Breast Cancer Awareness match begins at 6 p.m. in Memorial Hall.
