DOVER, DE --The Delaware State volleyball team secured a three-set sweep (25-18, 25-19, 25-20) over the Maryland-Eastern Shore Lady Hawks Friday at home at Memorial Hall.
The conference victory improved Delaware State's record to 7-13 overall and 3-3 in MEAC play.
The Hornets offense was paced by Gerren Tomlin, who finished with 19 kills on the day while accumulating a hitting percentage of .5, and by Aaliyah Mitchell, who had 10 while hitting .4. Defensively, had two players reach double figures in digs as Autumn Richardson had 13 and Emma Patmon had 10.
How It Happened
SET 1 | The Hornets grabbed the first set 25-18 powered by a solid performance on the attacking end. Delaware State registered a .303 attack percentage with 16 kills in the set victory. The Hornets opened up a 22-12 lead in the stanza and coasted to victory from there.
SET 2 | After their win in the first set, Delaware State put themselves on the cusp of a sweep with a 25-19 victory in set number two. The Hornets scored first and never trailed in the set to earn the victory. Delaware State opened up as much as a 10 point lead at 20-10 before closing out the set, totaling 16 kills along the way. Delaware State's front row had a solid defensive performance, blocking four Maryland-Eastern Shore attacks in the stanza.
SET 3 | Delaware State took set three to finish the match in a 3-0 sweep. The Hornets scored first and never trailed in the set to earn a 25-20 victory. Delaware State opened up as much as a seven point lead at 23-16 before closing out the set, collecting 17 kills in the process.
