NORFOLK, VA --The Delaware State volleyball team cruised to a 3-0 win (25-16, 25-18, 25-21) over the Norfolk State Spartanettes Sunday on the road at James D Gill Health & Physical Education Building.
The conference victory improved Delaware State's record to 6-12 overall and 2-2 in MEAC play.
Gerren Tomlin finished with 14 kills on the day to lead the Hornets offense while finishing with a hitting percentage of .324. got 10 digs from Emma Patmon to lead them defensively.
How It Happened
SET 1 | The Hornets won the first point and never trailed to win the first set 25-16. Delaware State led by nine points at 24-15 before closing out the set. Delaware State also supplemented their offense with four aces in the opening set.
SET 2 | After their win in the first set, Delaware State put themselves on the cusp of a sweep with a 25-18 victory in set number two. The Hornets took control of the set lead early on at 6-5 and never looked back. Delaware State opened its biggest lead of the stanza, seven points, to close out the set, totaling 16 kills along the way.
SET 3 | Delaware State then ended the match with a victory in set number three. The Hornets persevered in a back-and-forth set to win 25-21 in a stanza that featured three lead changes and was tied eight times. Neither team opened up a lead of more than four points along the way.
