Dover, Del. (Apr. 2, 2014) --- The Delaware State University women's lacrosse team will close out the second season in its history on Thursday (Apr. 3) at Howard in a battle of teams seeking their first win of the season. Game time is 4 p.m. in Washington, D.C.
The Hornets are winless in 10 games, while Howard is 0-9 this season.
Delaware State is averaging 5.5 goals per game this year, more than double its average of 2.64 in 2013.
The Hornets are also getting off 15.2 shots per game, up from its 8.7 average of a year ago.
Delaware State is led in scoring by freshman Emily Etkins, who tops the team with 18 goals and 21 points, each a school single-season record.
Emily Peets (sr.) is second on the Hornets with nine goals and is third on the team with 11 points. Peets is fifth among all NCAA Division I players in draw controls at 6.6 per game this season.
Etkins and Peets each scored a school-record five goals in a game this season.
Megan Card (fr.) has eight goals and is second on the Hornets with 13 assists this year. Card set a team record with seven points vs. Presbyterian on Feb. 22.
Eleven players have at least one goal for the Hornets this season.
Delaware State goal keeper Rhian Sellers (so.) ranks seventh in the nation in saves per game (9.89) and eighth in total saves (89). Sellers set a team record with 19 saves in the Presbyterian contest.
Howard is averaging 14.7 shots and 6.0 goals per game this year.
The Hornets and Bison have each played Presbyterian this season. Delaware State lost to the Blue Hose 19-16, while Howard suffered a 16-9 loss to Presby. on March 30.
