RIDER TOO MUCH FOR HORNETS IN 3-0 VOLLEYBALL WIN

Lawrenceville, N.J. (Oct. 23, 2013) ---The Delaware State University volleyball team was vying for its first two-game winning streak of the season; but Rider dashed the Hornets' hopes with a 3-0 victory Wednesday evening.

The scores were 25-10, 25-22 and 25-20.

Bridget Sheerin led the way for Rider, topping all players with 11 kills on 16 attempts (.562), while teammate Jaclyn Webber had a match-high 15 digs.

Jessica Croucher led the Hornets with 10 kills, while Sonya Inderbitzen and Natalia Mendieta topped the team with nine digs each.

In game one, Rider scored 20 of the final 25 points to en route to the win and a 1-0 match lead.

The second set featured 16 ties. The Hornets pulled ahead 18-17 on a kill by Edarkis Branch. Rider regained the lead 19-18, but DSU scored two of the next three points to tie the game at 20-20

The Broncs outscored the Hornets 5-2 the rest of the way to take a 2-0 lead in the match.

In game three, Delaware State scored the first point but trailed the rest of the match. Rider opened up a 15-9 lead on a Hornet error and was ahead by as many as nine in the set.

Delaware State posted a .081 hitting percentage in the match (28 kills/20 errors/99 attacks), compared to .293 for Rider (39/12/92).

DSU, winner of its previous match, is now 2-17 this season. Rider improved to 12-8.

The Hornets return to action on Sunday (Oct. 27) with a MEAC North match at Howard. The contest is scheduled for 3:00 p.m. in Washington, D.C.
