Dover, DE --- Sha Tabor hit a three-run homer in the fifth inning to lift Delaware State to a 4-3 win over Howard in game two of a softball doubleheader on Saturday. Howard won the opener 11-3. In the nightcap, the Hornets trailed 3-1 when Tabor smacked a homer over the left field fence, scoring Megan Lambertz and Nicole Demers ahead of her, with two outs in the bottom of the fifth to give the Hornets a 4-2 lead. Howard scored a run with one out in the top of the seventh off DSU reliever Brittney Ruark to pull to within 4-3. The Bison had a runner on third with two out in the seventh, but Ruark retired Courtney Young on a fly ball to center field for the final out of the game. JoJo Shields knocked in Delaware State's first run on one-out double in the bottom of the second to tie the game at one. Howard scored a run in the top of the third to open up a 2-1 lead. Lambertz, DSU's starter, allowed two runs on five hits to earn the win. Ruark recorded the last four outs to pick up her first save of the season. The win snapped a 10-game losing streak for the Hornets. In game one, Young was 3-for-4 with four RBI to lead the Bison. Candice Tatum and Kristina Cordova knocked in two runs each for Howard. The Bison led 2-1 before adding four runs in the top of the sixth. Howard put the game away with five runs in the seventh. The Hornets scored the game's first run on a double by Demers in the first inning. Demers and Andrea Waters had two hits each for Delaware State. Delaware State is now 11-14 overall and 1-1 in the MEAC, while Howard is 8-10 and 1-1. The teams will wrap the series with a single game on Sunday at 1:00 p.m. at the DSU softball complex.
