Wilmington, DE --- Delaware State (4-2) scored six runs in the second inning, but it was not enough in an 11-9 loss to UNC-Greensboro in the Seahawk Classic on Saturday. Earlier in the day, the Hornets fell to Charleston Southern 9-0.
In the loss to UNC-Greensboro, the Hornet scored six times in the second inning to open up a 6-3 lead. Aisha Holloman had a two-run homer in the second for the Hornets.
After Greensboro scored two in the second and third innings to grab a 7-6 lead, Nicole Demers hit a two-run homer in the fourth to put the Hornets ahead 8-7.
UNC-Greensboro scored four runs in the bottom of the sixth to regain control for good.
DSU VS. CHARLESTON SOUTHERN
Wilmington, NC --- The Delaware State softball team was held to four hits in a 9-0 loss to Charleston Southern in the Seahawk Classic at UNC-Wilmington Saturday. The Hornets fell to 4-1 on the season. Charleston Southern scored three runs on one hit in the top of the first inning. CSU added a run in the third to open up a 4-0 lead. Charleston Southern tacked on five runs in the fourth. The game was halted after five innings due to the mercy rule. Three Charleston Southern pitchers combined for the shutout. Nicole Demers had her third double of the season for the Hornets.
Delaware State will take on Lehigh (9:00 am) and Mount St. Mary's in the Seahawk Classic on Sunday.
