Hornets Start Conference Play  
After a 3-0 showing at the DSU Tournament, The Hornets will begin conference play this weekend against the Hampton Pirates and the first-place Maryland-Eastern Shore Hawks.  The Hornets are 6-30 all-time against the Pirates and 29-31 against the Hawks.    Head Coach Renee Arnold  DSU Head Coach Renee Arnold (53-91) is in her fifth season with the Hornets.  Last season, Arnold led the team to a 11-20 overall record and a 7-3 MEAC record. She also led DSU to a MEAC Tournament win over North Carolina A&T before falling to Maryland-Eastern Shore (2-3) in the semifinals. Arnold's 2007 overall record included contests against #2 Stanford and #3 Penn State, along with major conference foes Boston College and Michigan State.  

The 2008 Hornets   
Junior Cassandra Joyner leads the team in kills (132), kills/game (2.87), total blocks (36) and blocks/game (0.78).      

Sophomore Erica Tajchman leads the Hornets in digs (94) and digs/game (2.35).  She also ranks second in kills (108), kills/game (2.70, and service aces. (14)   

Freshman Martina Ferrari leads the team in assists (190) and assists/game (4.32).      

As a team, the Hornets rank first in the MEAC in opponents hitting percentage (.174), second in blocks/game (1.76), second in service aces/game (1.63), and second in hitting percentage (.179).  (All as of 9/28)

Hornets Start MEAC Play @ Hampton
After posting a 6-7 record to start the season, the Hornets will now start MEAC play.  Under Renee Arnold, DSU is 25-16 in conference play.  When, the Hornets have opened up conference play against Hampton under Arnold, they are 3-0.

Hampton Player to Watch - Aaryn Harrison - MB/OH
Harrison leads the Pirates with 2.95 kills/game and is tied for the team-lead with 0.32 blocks/game.

In 2007, she was voted the team's outstanding freshman.  She ranked fourth on the team with 213 kills, had 149 errors for a percentage of .101, and recorded 66 digs.

Maryland-Eastern Shore Player to Watch - Christina Estabane' ? S
Estabane is the Hawks' most well-rounded player.  She leads the team with 9.42 assists/gam/e and 3.11 digs/game.  She also leads the team and is ranked eighth in the nation with 0.58 service aces/game.

She was named the MEAC volleyball player of the week for the week ending 9/28.  This is her fourth POW honor this season.
