PHILADELPHIA, Penn - Despite a close game early in the first half on Friday, Delaware State women's lacrosse lost their season opener, on the road, 17-3 to the La Salle Explorers.
The Hornets are 0-1 for the season. Their first NEC game will be on Saturday, March 14, against Wagner.

HOW IT HAPPENED AGAINST LA SALLE
- La Salle got on the board early with three straight goals. The Hornets answered with a goal from Kimbel at the seven-minute mark. Even with multiple shot attempts by the Hornets, La Salle capitalized with two straight goals to end the first quarter. It was a 5-1 lead.
- The second quarter was won by the Explorers, as they outscored Delaware State 9-1. Noel got the only score for the Hornets at the eight-minute mark. The half closed with a successful Hornets' clear, but La Salle led 14-2.
- Although the third quarter was a sweep for the Explorers, the Hornets' defense held them to only two goals. The defense caused six turnoversin the quarter, while the goalkeeper had three saves. Through three, La Salle had a 16-2 advantage.
- Delaware State came out swinging in the last quarter to get on the board first. Weston put one in for the Hornets, but the Explorers answered with one more of their own. Â Although the Hornets were aggressive with their shots at the end, the deficit was too great. La Salle won 17-3.

The Hornets are back in action on Tuesday, Feb. 10 at 4 p.m. They will face the UMBC Retrievers.
