SALISBURY, Maryland --The Delaware State Hornets took a 3-1 lead in the second inning and never trailed from there on the way to a 7-3 win over the Maryland-Eastern Shore Hawks on Sunday.
Nathan Vidmar (1-2) started on the mound and picked up the win for Delaware State (2-9, 1-2). The right-hander went six innings, giving up two runs, both of them earned, on eight hits, allowing one walk and striking out two. Jeremy Vest also made an impact on the mound for the Hornets, throwing three innings, giving up one run on two hits, with no walks and two strikeouts.
At the plate, the Hornets were paced by Brady Daniels, who went 3-for-4 on the day with a walk and two RBI. Caleb King put together a standout performance at the plate as well, going 1-for-4 with a double, a walk and an RBI. Santino Harwood also helped out for Delaware State, putting together two hits in four trips to the plate while adding an RBI.
HOW IT HAPPENED
The Hornets were trailing 1-0 in the second inning when they first put runs on the board.
The Hornets then lost some of their lead, expanding on their advantage in the fifth inning after the Hawks cut it to 3-2. Harwood came across to score the lone run of the inning for Delaware State, which brought the score to 4-2 in favor of the Hornets.
Delaware State kept Maryland-Eastern Shore scoreless before building their lead to 5-2 the following inning.
Delaware State held the Hawks without a run before their offense got back to their scoring ways the next inning. The Hornets scored once on an RBI single off the bat of Daniels, bringing the Delaware State advantage to 6-2.
