Staten Island, New York– The Delaware State track and field program continued its indoor season on Friday at the Spartan Invitational.
On the women's side, Mariah Winfield secured double wins, leading the way for the Hornets. Winfield finished first in the long jump with a distance of 5.50 meters, followed by a team win in the 4x200 Relay alongside Sierra Passee, Kahlia Smith, and Joy Taiwo with a final time of 1:43.69.
Senior Amber Pelle finished first in the weight throw with a distance of 15.60 meters. Sanaa Virgil took fourth place in the long jump with a distance of 5.21 meters and fifth place in the Triple Jump with a distance of 11.18 meters. Nia Vaughan also contributed to the Hornets' victories with a 5.21 meters long jump, securing fifth place.
Freshman Valerie Ashamu continued the Hornets' success with a height of 1.55 meters in the High Jump, earning third place. Kirja Hickman took third place in the shot put with a throw of 12.16 meters. The Women's Distance Medley finished in fifth place with a final time of 13:42.21.
