DOVER, DE --Senior Krew Bouldin put together a brilliant outing at the plate Saturday, hitting two home runs to help power the Delaware State Hornets over the Stonehill Skyhawks 17-12.
Sophomore Kieran Etwaru started on the mound and picked up the win for Delaware State (16-23, ). The right-hander went 4.2 innings, giving up six runs, all of them earned, on seven hits, allowing four walks and striking out six.
Krew Bouldin went 2-for-3 at the plate, supplementing his two home runs with four RBIs. Senior Kodai Yaoita added to Bouldin's awesome power-hitting performance by going 2-for-5 with three RBI along with one walk. Freshman Jaryn Sample also helped out for the Hornets, going 3-for-6 with a walk and two RBI.
Trailing 1-0, the Hornets first put runs on the board in the second inning. Delaware State's offense started clicking and put up six runs, including a two-run single off the bat of Yaoita.
The Hornets then lost some of their lead, expanding on their advantage in the fourth inning after the Skyhawks cut it to 6-3. Delaware State scored once on an RBI single off the bat of sophomore Joey Current, which brought the Hornets lead to 7-3.
Stonehill narrowed Delaware State's lead to 7-6 before the Hornets stretched the advantage to 12-6 in the fifth inning. The Hornets bats heated up in the inning, scoring five runs, including a two-run home run off the bat of Bouldin.
The Skyhawks gained ground, closing the gap to 12-8 until Delaware State added some insurance in the eighth. The Hornets scored five runs in the inning, highlighted by a one-run groundout off the bat of Yaoita, bringing the Delaware State advantage to 17-8. Stonehill put four runs on the scoreboard before the game was over, but the Hornets still coasted to the 17-12 win. Stonehill was led offensively by senior Ciulla-Hall, who went 2-for-5 with a home run and an RBI.
