ANDOVER, MA --The Delaware State Hornets fought back from down 8-6 in the sixth inning to knock off the Merrimack Warriors 11-9 Sunday.
E. Valle (1-1) picked up the victory out of the bullpen for Delaware State (11-17, 10-7). The right-hander went 2.1 innings, giving up one run on two hits, allowing one walk and striking out one. E. Bouldin also made an impact on the mound for the Hornets, starting the ballgame and throwing two shutout innings while allowing no hits, with one walk and two strikeouts.
In the batter's box, the Hornets were led by J. Current, who went 2-for-5 on the day with a double, a home run and three RBI. C. Amparo compiled a standout day at the dish as well, going 1-for-3 with a home run, two walks and three RBI. K. Bouldin also chipped in for Delaware State, putting together two hits in three trips to the plate while adding a home run, two walks and an RBI.
The Hornets were trailing 3-0 in the fourth inning when they first put runs on the board. K. Bouldin put Delaware State on the board with a one-out solo home run off B. Ryan.
The Warriors expanded their lead to 8-1 before the Hornets offense got back to work, cutting into that lead in the sixth. Delaware State hit two home runs in the inning on the way to pushing five runs aross. which brought the score to 8-6 in favor of the Warriors.
Delaware State kept the Warriors off the board before rallying to snatch a 10-8 lead in the seventh. The Hornets bats heated up in the inning, scoring four runs, including a three-run home run off the bat of Current.
The Warriors gained ground, closing the gap to 10-9 until Delaware State added some insurance in the eighth. The Hornets sent in a run on E. Bouldin's one-out solo homer off M. Dragon, bringing the Delaware State advantage to 11-9. The score remained 11-9 for the rest of the game, as the Hornets held on for the win. Merrimack was led offensively by F. Ferrentin, who went 2-for-3 with a double and three RBI. J. Borsari led the Warriors pitching staff, throwing 1.2 shutout innings.
