WASHINGTON, DC --Martaz Robinson notched a double-double with 20 points and 10 rebounds, but the Delaware State men's basketball team fell to the Howard Bison 85-66 on the road Monday.
The Hornets (13-16, 6-7) had two players score in double figures, led by Robinson, who notched a double-double with 20 points and 10 rebounds. Jevin Muniz added 14 points and Alston Andrews added four points.
Led by Wesley Oba's six offensive rebounds, Delaware State did a great job crashing the offensive glass, pulling down 13 boards that resulted in 17 second chance points.
Delaware State forced 14 Howard turnovers while committing 13 themselves in Monday's game. The Hornets turned those takeaways into 11 points on the offensive end of the floor. Dean Shepherd led the way individually with two steals.
How It Happened
Delaware State struggled out of the gate, falling behind 43-32 heading into halftime.
Howard kept widening its lead after intermission, constructing a 45-32 advantage before Delaware State went on a 5-0 run, finished off by Robinson's layup, to shrink the deficit to 45-37 with 18:20 to go in the contest. Howard responded and outscored the Hornets the rest of the way, ending the game with a final score of 85-66. Delaware State capitalized on eight Howard turnovers in the period, collecting 10 points off those turnovers. The Delaware State defense forced 14 turnovers.
