Defensive effort not enough as Delaware State loses to North Carolina Central 59-53

NORFOLK, VA --The Delaware State men's basketball team kept North Carolina Central to just 12.5 percent from 3-point range in a 2-for-16 shooting performance, but fell 59-53 to the Eagles at Scope Arena Friday.

The Hornets (8-23) had two players score in double figures, led by Ponce James, who had 17 points and four assists. Rahmir Moore tacked on 13 points and seven rebounds and Jalen StClair added eight points.

Muazibini Adamu pulled down three offensive rebounds to lead the Delaware State offense which grabbed 11 boards and turned them into 14 second chance points.

Delaware State's defense held North Carolina Central to only 12.5 percent shooting from beyond the arc.

How It Happened

Delaware State struggled out of the gate, falling behind 32-21 heading into halftime.

Delaware State narrowed its deficit to 36-26 before going on a 6-0 run, finished off by Jalen Stclair's layup, to shrink the deficit to 36-32 with 13:40 to go in the contest. North Carolina Central responded and outscored the Hornets the rest of the way, ending the game with a final score of 59-53. Delaware State took care of business in the paint, recording 22 of its 32 points in the lane.
