Dover, Del. (Apr. 6, 2023) – The competition for playing time among running backs on the 2023 Hornets is expected to be intense throughout the remainder of spring drills and into summer camp.
Wade Inge (r-jr.; Williamstown, N.J.) is hoping his versatility is an asset as he competes with, among others, 2022 MEAC Rookie-of-the-Year
Marquis Gillis (r-so.; Milford, Del.) and veteran
Michael Chris-Ike (r-sr.; Hamilton, Ontario), for carries in the upcoming season. Inge was second to Gillis on the Hornets with 337 rushing yards and was tops among running backs with 12 receptions for 94 yards, in addition to leading the Hornets with 385 kickoff return yards (19.3 ypr) in the 2022 season. He played in all 11 games as a redshirt freshman in 2021, ranking third on the Hornets with 207 yards rushing and averaging a team-best 4.7 yards per carry.
"As a running back group, I believe we are among the best in the MEAC," said Inge. "Each of us can get the job done. I'm just working and studying as hard as I can to learn from the new coaching staff, so I'll be ready when my number is called."
Prior to enrolling at Delaware State and joining the Hornets, Inge was a three-sport athlete at Williamstown (N.J.) High School. He set four individual records during his the highly decorated four-year football career: total receptions (81), single-game rushing yards (304), rushing yards in a championship game (304) and touchdowns in a game (4). He signed with the Hornets after leading Williamstown to a 12-0 record, West Jersey Football Conference and Group 5 sectional state championships, while recording 1,727 all-purpose yards and 22 total touchdowns during his senior season.
A Physical Education major whose on schedule to graduate next spring, Inge plans to purse a master's degree before embarking on a teaching and coaching career.
