Dover, Del. (Sep. 5, 2022) --- Delaware State middle blocker Alondra Maldonado (jr.; Patillas, P.R.) has been honored by the Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference for her stellar play in the Hornets' three-match sweep at their home invitational last weekend.
Maldonado has been selected as the MEAC Player-of-the-Week after combining for 28 kills on 52 attacks (.365 hitting pct.), 10 blocks and 33 points to help lead the Hornets to two 3-0 wins over Hartford and a 3-0 victory over Quinnipiac in the tournament.
For the season, Maldonado is second on the Hornets with 54 kills and tied for second on the team with 23 blocks.
Delaware State has won its last four matches to improve to 4-2 this season. The Hornets return to action on Tuesday (Sep. 6) at home against Bowie State. Start time is set for 6:00 p.m. at Bayhealth Court in Memorial Hall.
DSU has won 18 straight home matches since the Covid-impacted spring 2021 season.        
Delaware State will host the 2022 MEAC Volleyball Tournament for the first time this fall. The championship tournament is set for Nov. 18-20 in Memorial Hall. The tournament winner earns the MEAC's automatic bid to the NCAA national championship tourney.
