Hornets close out the regular season with a 3-set sweep against Maryland-Eastern Shore

PRINCESS ANNE, MD --The Delaware State volleyball team took care of business in three sets (25-15, 25-21, 25-21) to beat the Maryland-Eastern Shore Lady Hawks Friday on the road at Hytche Center.

The win moved the Hornets' record to 11-17 overall and 7-7 in MEAC action.

Gerren Tomlin finished with 13 kills on the day to lead the Hornets attack while finishing with a hitting percentage of .4. got 9 digs from Tomlin along with five blocks from Hannah Sanders to lead them defensively.

How It Happened

SET 1 | The Hornets took control on the first point and held the lead the rest of the way to secure the first set 25-15. Delaware State opened up its biggest lead, 10 points, to finish off the set. Delaware State also supplemented their offense with four aces in the opening set.

SET 2 | Delaware State continued to roll after a set-one win by earning a 25-21 victory in set number two. The Hornets took the set with the help of a solid showing on the attacking end. Delaware State registered a .333 attack percentage with 13 kills in the set win. The Hornets opened up a 23-18 lead in the stanza and coasted to victory from there. The Delaware State offense also got a boost from three aces in the stanza.

SET 3 | Delaware State finished off the match in a 3-0 sweep after winning set three. The Hornets grabbed control of the set early when the score was 2-1 and never trailed to win 25-21. Delaware State led by eight points at 12-4 before closing out the stanza. The Delaware State offense also got a boost from three aces in the stanza. Delaware State's front row had a solid defensive performance, blocking four Maryland-Eastern Shore attacks in the stanza.
