Cordero claims MEAC weekly honors

NORFOLK, Va. --- Delaware State senior outside hitter Karen Cordero was named Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference (MEAC) Co-Player of the Week for women's volleyball as announced by the league earlier this afternoon.

In a week where the Hornets recorded four consecutive straight-set wins, Cordero sat atop her team's offensive production. For those four games, Cordero tallied 33 kills (2.75 k/s average) with an attack percentage of .453. She landed six service aces and handed out two assists for a total of 40 points.

On the defensive side of the net, Cordero notched 22 digs and handed out a block. This is her first MEAC weekly honor of the 2022 season and she becomes the third Hornet this year to be recognized by the league. Cordero joins Sydney Lewis and Alondra Maldonado in being honored by the conference.

Delaware State returns to action on Thursday in the Mountaineer Invitational hosted by West Virginia University. The Hornets open up the tournament with a match against the Bearcats of Binghamton. First serve from the WVU Coliseum is scheduled for 10 a.m.
