Sydney Lewis (sr.; Bowie, Md.) has been honored by the Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference for her performance in the Hornets' opening weekend of the 2022 season.
Lewis was selected as the first MEAC Defensive Player of the Week this season after totaling 19 blocks, 24 kills, 41 points (2.93 per set) and seven aces in three matches at DoubleTree-Youngstown State Invitation.
She had a career-high nine blocks, seven kills and an ace to lead the Hornets to a 3-2 victory over Idaho in their tournament finale, and posted a career-high six aces, seven kills and six blocks in vs. Youngstown State.
Lewis also tallied a season-high 10 kills and added four blocks against Valparaiso in the Hornets' season opener.
Delaware State (1-2) will play its 2022 volleyball home opener on Wednesday (Aug. 31) against Manhattan. Start time is scheduled for 7:00 p.m. in Memorial Hall.
The Hornets will also host a four-team tournament this weekend (Sep. 2-3). Delaware State will be joined by Hartford, Loyola (Md.) and Quinnipiac in the two-day event.
Friday (Sep. 2) matches are scheduled for 4:00 p.m. (Hartford vs. Delaware State) and 7:00 p.m. (Quinnipiac vs. Loyola).
The tournament resumes on Saturday (Sep. 3) with contests at 11:00 a.m. (Loyola vs. Hartford), 2:00 p.m. (Quinnipiac vs. Delaware State), 4:30 p.m. (Hartford vs. Quinnipiac) and 7:00 p.m. (Loyola vs. Delaware State).
The MEAC Volleyball Tournament will be hosted by Delaware State for the first time this fall. The 2022 championship tournament is set for Nov. 18 - 20 in Memorial Hall.
