Baltimore, Md. (Apr. 15, 2022) --- Delaware State scored three runs in the top of the seventh inning in a come-from-behind 5-4 victory over Coppin State in game one of a doubleheader today.
The Eagles won the second game 13-3.
In the opener, the Hornets trailed 3-2 entering their seventh inning at bat.
Kyle Johnson started the rally with a one-out single.
Yanique Spencer followed with a double to score Johnson, tying the game at 3-3. The next batter,
Dallas Speicher-Ramirez, also doubled to score pinch runner
McKenzie Yurcaba and putting the Hornets in front 4-3.
Delaware State added an insurance run on a sacrifice fly by
Jonah Cunnigan to score Speicher-Ramirez.
Coppin State scored a run in the bottom of the seventh, and had the potential tying run on base, but Hornet reliever Emma Glawson recorded the final out to record the win.
Spencer has two hits (2-3) to lead Delaware State's seven-hit attack.
In the nightcap, Coppin State led 10-1 after three innings en route to the win.
Johnson was 2-for-2 at the plate, while Spencer drove in two runs for the Hornets in game two.
The teams will wrap up the series with a single game at Coppin State on Saturday at 12:0 p.m. Â Â Â
