Cruz, Maldonado claim MEAC honors

NORFOLK, Va. --- Delaware State senior libero Jasmal Cruz and junior middle blocker Alondra Maldonado claimed individual weekly honors as announced by the Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference (MEAC) office earlier today.

Both players played pivotal roles in Delaware State's 3-2 win over Coppin State at Memorial Hall on Sunday.

Cruz earned Defensive Player of the Week honors after recording a game-high 29 digs to help secure the home win. She also passed out four assists and landed one service ace.

Maldonado was named Player of the Week for the third time this season after she reached a career-high in total points and kills in a game in yesterday's victory. She racked up 23 total points by way of 21 kills and four assisted blocks. Maldonado was the only player on the court who eclipsed the 20-point and 20-kill mark.

Delaware State returns to action tomorrow for its rescheduled match at Morgan State University. First serve from Hill Field House is set for 5 p.m.
