Dover, Del. (Oct. 25, 2022) --- The Delaware State women's basketball team had a better than front row seat during U.S. President Joe Biden's recent visit to the university. The Lady Hornets, in fact, shared the stage with Biden during the former First State Senator's first visit to Delaware State University as President.
It was also the first visit to Delaware State by a sitting U.S. President in the university's 131-year history.
Biden's nationally-televised message during his visit centered on encouraging students to apply for the historic debt relief plan he announced last month, where people making less than $125,000 annually will be forgiven $10,000 in debt and those who qualified for a Pell Grant will receive $20,000.
The plan will affect 43 million Americans, 90% of whom make less than $75,000, and almost 1.5 million will be HBCU students.
"It was really special to be on stage with the President of the United States, although is feeling is even more overwhelming as I look back on the event," said Lady Hornets basketball graduate student
Jessica Martino of New York. "The first person I called was my grandmother, who was just as excited for me."
The Delaware State women's basketball team was also joined on the stage by Delaware State student leaders, along with students from the university's Early College School.during the Biden visit.Â
