NORFOLK, VA --The Delaware State women's basketball team got a 23-point showing from the bench, but fell 55-48 to the Maryland-Eastern Shore Hawks at Scope Arena Wednesday.
The Hornets (7-23) had three players score in double figures, led by Aniyah Jones, who had 13 points. Liliana Harrison added 10 points and six rebounds and Anise Geiger helped out with a double-double from the bench with 10 points and 11 rebounds.
Geiger pulled down five offensive rebounds to pace an offense that racked up second chance opportunities for Delaware State, grabbing 10 boards and turning them into 10 second chance points.
The Delaware State defense held Maryland-Eastern Shore shooters to just 34.9 percent from the field, including 14.3 percent from three-point range.

How It Happened
Delaware State struggled out of the gate, falling behind 13-8 at the end of the first quarter.
Maryland-Eastern Shore kept adding to that lead, building a 26-17 advantage before Delaware State went on a 5-0 run to narrow its deficit to 26-22. Maryland-Eastern Shore responded and expanded its lead, leaving the Hornets trailing 28-22 heading into halftime.
Delaware State came out of halftime on fire, going on a 5-0 run, punctuated by a basket from Ericka Huggins, to trim its deficit to 28-27 with 8:08 to go in the third. The Hornets were unable to cut further into the deficit, but did not cede ground to Maryland-Eastern Shore either and entered the fourth quarter trailing 38-37. Delaware State played well near the basket, scoring eight of its 15 points in the paint.
Delaware State could not pull any closer in the fourth, losing by a final of 55-48. Delaware State got a boost from its bench in the period, with non-starters scoring five of its 11 total points.
