Dover, Del. (Oct. 21, 202) --- The Delaware State men's basketball team will have plenty of motivation heading into the 2022-23 season. The Hornets have been picked to finish in a tie with South Carolina State for seventh in the eight-team Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference regular season race, according to a poll of league head coaches and sports information representatives.
Defending champ Norfolk State is the voters' choice to win the regular season title. The Spartans collected 15 of 16 possible first place votes and 127 total points.
North Carolina Central is second in the poll. The Eagles received one first place votes and 102 total points in the poll.
The MEAC also announced its preseason teams for the upcoming season.
Delaware State guard
Corey Perkins (so.; Wilmington, Del.) has been selected to the Preseason All-MEAC Third Team.
Perkins was a MEAC All-Rookie selection as a freshman during the 2021-22 season. He was tops on the team and fifth in the MEAC in assists at 3.3 per game (74 total). Perkins also ranked eighth in the MEAC with a 1.1 assist-to-turnover ratio, and was eighth in the league in steals at 1.5 per game.
Fellow guard
Martaz Robinson (jr.; Baltimore, Md.) also returns to the Hornets for the 2022-23 campaign. Robinson was fourth on the team in scoring at 7.1 points per game last season.
Norfolk State senior guard Joe Bryant, Jr. has been selected as the 2022-23 MEAC Preseason Player-of-the-Year. Bryant was the league's Player-of-the-Year for the 2021=22 campaign.
The Hornets tip off their 2022-23 season at home on Nov. 3 against Gwynedd Mercy University (7:00 p.m.).
