THE GAME 
Delaware State (2-12, 0-1 MEAC) is home for the first time since Dec. 11, taking on perennial MEAC power North Carolina Central. The Hornets bring a 10-game losing streak into the contest. Delaware State is coming off an 80-51 wire-to-wire loss to preseason MEAC favorite Norfolk State in its last outing on Jan. 12.  The Hornets trailed by just 25-20 after a three-pointer by D'Marco Baucum with 3:35 left in the first half, and was down 27-20 at the break. Norfolk State controlled the second half, outscoring DSU 53-31 in the final 20 minutes. Myles Carter (gr.) and John Stansbury (jr.) were the only double-figure scorers for the Hornets with 11 points each.  Carter (sr.), a preseason All-MEAC First Team selection,  is tops on the Hornets and fourth in the MEAC in scoring at 14.4 points per game. He's also 10th in the league in rebounding at 5.5 per contest, fourth in field goal percentage (.407), 17th in steals (1.4 pg) and fourth in minutes played (32.0 pg). Delaware State guard Dominik Fragala (jr.), who has missed the last two games due to ankle injury. is seventh in the league with a 13.9 point per game average. Fragala is also second in the MEAC in three-point shooting (2.2 pg) and second in free throw shooting (.833). Hornet center Chris Sodom (jr.) is No. 1 in the MEAC in blocks at 2.0 per game (28 total) and seventh in rebounding at 5.9 per contest. Delaware State freshman point guard Corey Perkins is off to an impressive start to his college career. Perkins is second in the MEAC in assists (4.4 per game), fourth in steals (1.8 pg) and fifth in assist-to-turnover ratio (1.5). He has missed the last three games due to injury.    
 
NC Central (9-4; 0-0 MEAC) is making its 2021-22 MEAC debut. The Eagles have been idle since a 68-51 loss at Texas El Paso on Dec. 22. Their last four scheduled games were postponed or scheduled due to Covid-related issues. Randy Miller is tops on the Eagles and 8th in the MEAC in scoring at 13.2 points per game.  Kris Monroe is second on the team in scoring at 9.2 points per game and tied for first in rebounding at 4.9 per contest.               

Series History (North Carolina Central leads 28-17)
This is the second meetings between the teams this season and 46th all-time. North Carolina Central won the first meeting 86-53 in the HBCU Legacy Classic on Dec. 18 at the Prudential Center in Newark, N.J.  Delaware State never led in the contest. NCCU's Randy Miller, Jr. led all players with 23 points, highlighted by eight-for-12 shooting from the field, including six-of-nine on three-point shots. Myles Carter was high scorer for the Hornets with 18 points, while Dominik Fragala added 12. 
The Hornets and Eagles did not meet in 2020-21 campaign since NCCU opted out of the season due to the pandemic. The Eagles won two of the three games in the 2019-20 season. Delaware State won the first 2019-20 meeting 68-66 on a game-winning shot at the buzzer by John Crosby in the last contest between the teams at DSU's Memorial Hall. Delaware State and North Carolina Central are scheduled to meet again on Feb. 19 in Durham, N.C.
