Box Score 2 Orangeburg, S.C. (Apr. 17, 2021)—The Delaware State softball team is back on the winning track after winning two games at the MEAC Round-up on Saturday. The Hornets began the day with a 5-2 victory over North Carolina Central before posting a 6-2 victory over South Carolina State.
In DSU's opener,
Mayanah McIntosh pitched a complete game and
Jonah Cunnigan drove in two runs to lead the way.
McIntosh allowed just one earned run, while striking out six to improve to 3-4 this season.
The Hornets scored all of their runs in the third inning.
Nicolette Barranger singled to lead off the inning and score the game's first run on a single by
Jasmine Melgoza. Cunnigan followed with a two-run triple to give DSU a 3-0 lead.
Jaelyn Baker and
Hannah Crumblish also had run-scoring hits in the inning.
In the second game, Maiklya Nelson turned in a strong performance in the circle, while Baker was three for four with a home run and three RBI.
Jade King also drove in two runs in the victory against South Carolina State.
Nelson allowed just seven hits and two runs, while striking out three without a walk to earn the complete game victory.
DSU opened the scoring with two runs in the top of the first inning on a two-run triple by Baker.
The Hornets led 2-1 when King singled in two sixth-inning runs to stretch the lead to 4-1.
Delaware State added two more runs in the seventh, including a solo home run by Baker.
The Hornets (10-16; 8-6 MEAC) will wrap up the MEAC round-up against North Carolina A&T on Sunday at 10:00 a.m.
