Dover, Del. (Mar. 7, 2021) --- Delaware State posted three come-from-behind singles wins to highlight a 5-2 victory over Lafayette in Easton, Pa., today.
Overall, the Hornets won four of the six singles contests and earned the doubles point by winning two of three matches.
Klaudia Lisovska,
Anastasia Belkina and
Cassandra Boltman each dropped the first set before storming back to win their matches.
Lisovska fell behind after a 2-6 loss in the first set of the No. 2 contest. She earned a hard-fought 7-6 victory in the second set to tie the match, and won the third set 10-4.
The teams agreed to play a 10-point tie-break format for the third set in the singles matches.
In the No. 3 singles contest, Belkina dropped the first set 4-6. She evened the match with a 6-4 victory in set two, and completed the comeback with a 10-7 win in the third set.
Boltman was behind in the No. 4 battle after a 5-7 loss in the opening set. She took the second set 6-4 to tie the match, and posted a 10-5 victory in set three to earn the point for the Hornets.
Delaware State's
Alina Polyvana had an easier time in her victory in the No. 6 match, winning 6-2, 6-0.
Boltman and Polyvana also teamed up for a 6-1 victory in the No. 3 doubles match, while Belkina and
Iris Leder earned a 6-3 win in the No. 2 doubles contest.
Delaware State (2-1) is off to its best start since posting a 3-0 mark to begin the 2017 season. The Hornets also recorded their first victory against a non-MEAC Division I foe since topping St. Francis Brooklyn 4-3 in 2019. Â Â
