WASHINGTON, DC — The Delaware State women's tennis team fell 2–5 to MEAC (Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference) rival Howard University at the Southeast Tennis & Learning Center in Washington, D.C., despite securing two of three wins in the doubles competition.
Senior Lucia Casas Blas and freshman Alba Benedito opened doubles play with a 6–4 win over Howard's Franchesca Brown and Lauren Oliver. Freshmen Hannah Watkins and Maite Bou Safont clinched the doubles point, giving the Hornets a 1–0 lead with a 6–1 victory over Dana Hall and Chloe Goins heading into singles competition.
In singles play, Casas Blas defeated Howard's top player, Imani Jean, 6–1, 5–7, 6–1 to earn a point for the Hornets.
Howard went on to edge Delaware State, claiming five match ups, including two straight-set wins at the bottom of the lineup.
The Hornets look to bounce back in a home match up against Morgan State on April 7, 2026, at 2:00 p.m.
