Dover, Del. (Dec. 11, 2021) --- Visiting St. Francis Brooklyn added to the Delaware State's recent woes, topping the Hornets 75-61 in a men's basketball contest. The Terriers (2-8) won their second in a row after opening the season with eight losses, while DSU dropped its sixth in a row to fall to 2-8.
Rob Higgins scored a game-high 17 points, highlighted by three three-point field goals, Â to lead St. Francis, while teammate Michael Cubbage added 16 points on seven-for-13 shooting from the field.
Dom Fragala led three double-figure scorers for Delaware State with 16 points. Freshman guard
Corey Perkins scored in double-figures for the fifth time this season with 14 points and led the Hornets with three assists.
Myles Carter chipped in 11 points for DSU.
There were six lead changes in the first 15 minutes of the game. The Hornets held their last lead, 24-22, after two free throws by Fragala with 4:13 left in the first half.
The Terriers regained the lead 25-24 on a three-pointer by Larry Moreno and stretched their advantage to 28-24 on a three-ball by Tedrick Wilcox with 3:01 left before halftime.
St. Francis led 36-31 at the break.
The Hornets were outscored 13-2 to start the seconds half, and fell behind 49-33 on a basket by Bahaide Haidara with 15:28 left to play.
The Terriers opened up their biggest lead, 67-46 on a three-ball by  Higgins with 7:10 remaining in the game.
Delaware State made a late push, scoring 10 of the next 12 points, and pulled to within 69-56 on a three-point basket by Perkins at the 3:45 mark of the second half. The Hornets could get no closer than 12 points the rest of the way.
The Hornets outshot the Terriers in the game 44.7 percent to 43.9 percent. Delaware State was 21 for 47 from the field, but hit just five three-pointers on 13 attempts.  St. Francis knocked down 29 of its 66 shots, but nailed 11 threes on 26 tries.
The Terriers also held a 39-29 rebound advantage, while committing just eight turnovers compared to 14 for the Hornets.
 Delaware State will take a break for final exams before returning to action on Dec. 20 at Wagner in New York.
