HORNETS VISIT LIU IN THANKSGIVING WEEKEND CONTEST

THE GAME  
Delaware State (2-3, 0-0 MEAC)  plays on the road for the second time this season, taking on the Long Island University Sharks of the Northeast Conference. The Hornets have been idle since a gritty 67-63 home loss to UNC-Wilmington last Saturday. DSU scored the first six points of the game, and opened up an 11-4 lead on a three-pointer by Corey Perkins at the 15:10 mark of the first half. The Hornets held their biggest lead, 24-12, on a basket by Myles Carter with 8:05 to go in the half. DSU was ahead 36-31 lead at the break. The Hornets led 42-34 before the Seahawks began their comeback. UNCW outscored Delaware State 18-7 over the next four minutes, and pulled ahead 52-49 on a basket with 13:19 left to play. UNCW led by as many as seven points before the Hornets trimmed the deficit to three on a bucket with 1:06 to play, but could get no closer. The Hornets were outscored 36-27 in the second half. The loss overshadowed a stellar performance by DSU's Carter, who led all players with 24 points (11-19 FGs) and 10 rebounds for his first career double-double. Dominik Fragala was second on the Hornets with 13 points, while Perkins added 12 points and a team-high four assists. Fragala is tops in the MEAC in scoring at 17.0 points per game, while Carter is second at 15.2 per game. Fragala is also No. 2 in the league is three-point field goals at 2.8 per game (14 total)        
 
The Delaware State contest marks the home opener for Long Island (0-4; 0-0 NEC), which wrapped up  a stretch of four straight road games to start the season with a 64-62 loss at St. Peter's this past Tuesday. The Sharks has also dropped road games to San Francisco (98-64), Fresno State (80-64) and Connecticut (93-40). Forward Ty Flowers leads the Sharks in scoring at 14.8 points per game, highlighted by a 26-point performance at Fresno State. Forward Eral Penn is second on the team with a 14.0 ppg average, while Isaac Kante averages 10.0 points and a team-high 7.3 rebounds per game.   
 
 Series History ( LIU leads 1-0)
This is the second meeting between the teams. LIU won the first contest 92-84 in Dover, Del., on Nov. 18, 2019. DSU led 46-41 at the half, but was outscored 51-38 in the final 20 minutes. LIU's Flowers had 20 points and led all players with 17 rebounds in the game.
