Conway, S.C. (Feb. 15, 2020) --- It was tough sledding for Delaware State in two Saturday contests at Coastal Carolina's Bash at the Beach Tournament.
The Hornets fell to Coastal Carolina 10-1 and College of Charleston 15-1 on Saturday to fall to 0-4 in the tournament.
Each game was stopped in the fifth inning due to the eight-run rule.
In the Coastal Carolina contest, Delaware State was held to three singles, while two Chanticleers belted grand slams.
Coastal was ahead 1-0 when Stavi Augur hit a slam off DSU's
Tiffany Diao in the bottom of the second inning.
The score was 6-0 in the fourth when Coastal's hit a grand slam off Diao to close out the scoring.
Jasmine Melgoza, Caitlyn Meyer and
Alaena Selden each singled to account for Delaware State's hits.
The College of Charleston scored four runs in the first and second innings to lead 8-0 over the Hornets.
The Cougars closed out the scoring with seven runs in the top of the fourth.
Brittany Vicary was four-for-four with three runs batted in to lead Charleston's 12-hit attack.
The Hornets were again held to three singles, one each Melgoza, Meyer and Kayleigh Berry.
After an error-free game against Coastal Carolina, DSU committed five errors vs. The College of Charleston.
Delaware State will close out Bash at the Beach Tournament play with games against Jacksonville State and Coastal Carolina on Sunday. Â Â Â Â Â
