THE GAME 
Delaware State (2-17; 1-4 MEAC) is eighth in the MEAC race entering this weekend's competition. The Hornets have dropped their last three games, including an 82-67 setback to North Carolina A&T in their most recent outing on Jan. 27. DSU hit just 26 of its 75 shots from the floor (34.7%), including seven-of-32 on three-point attempts (21.9%) in its last game. The Hornets also hit a season-low mark in free throw shooting for the game, connecting on just eight of 24 shots from the line (33.3%). Omari Peek-Green led  Delaware State with 21 points (9-17 FGs) and 12 rebounds, each a career-high.  He also had a personal-best three three-point field goals. Pinky Wiley was the only other Delaware State player in double figures with 11 points vs. NCA&T. John Crosby, the Hornets' leading scorer this season, was held to just eight points on three-of-17 shooting overall from the field and one-for-nine on three-point tries to drop his average to 20.8 points per game. Crosby is No. 1 in the MEAC and 14th among all NCAA Div. I players in scoring at 20.8 points per game. He has reached double figures in scoring in 16 of the Hornets' 17 games, topping the 20-point mark in 10 games and scoring 30-or-more in four contests.  Ameer Bennett (jr.) is DSU's second leading scorer (11.2 ppg) and top rebounder (6.6 pg)  this season.

Coppin State (6-16; 2-5 MEAC), currently seventh in the MEAC standings, has won two of its last three games, including an 82-75 home victory over Howard last Monday. Koby Thomas led five double-figure scorer for the Eagles with 24 points, connecting on 10 of his 12 shots from the floor, including two three-pointers (2-for-3). Brendan Medley-Bacon added 16 points and a game-high 11 rebounds for CSU in its last outing. The Eagles shot 51.7% in the game (30-for-58) and outrebounded the Bison 43-31 in the contest. For the season, Thomas is the team's scoring leader at 12.3 points per game to rank 13th in the MEAC. Teammates Andrew Robinson and Dejuan Clayton are tied for second on the Eagles and 14th in the league with a 12.2 point per game average. Coppin State posted impressive road wins at Loyola Chicago (76-72), James Madison (94-78) and East Carolina (85-75) during its non-conference schedule this season.

HORNETS vs. Eagles Series History (CSU leads 47-31)   
This is the first of two scheduled meetings between the teams this season. The Hornets and Eagles have split their last four contests, including two meetings last season. Coppin State won the first 2018-19 battle 64-60 at Delaware State. The Hornets avenged the loss with a 70-60 victory at Coppin State later in the season. The Hornets and Eagles are scheduled to meet again on Feb. 22 at Coppin State's Physical Education Complex in Baltimore, Md.
