DSU SOFTBALL TO COMPETE IN REVISED LIBERTY CHALLENGE

Dover, Del. (Feb. 20, 2019) --- The Delaware State softball team returns to action with five scheduled games at the Liberty Challenge hosted by Liberty University in Lynchburg, Va., this weekend.

The Hornets are scheduled to begin the tournament with a Thursday contest (6:30 p.m.) against host Liberty.

DSU is also slated to face Valparaiso (Fri. @ 11 a.m.), Bucknell (Sat. @ 3:00 p.m.), Wright State (Sat. @ 5:00 p.m.) and Princeton (Sun. @ 11:00 a.m.).

The Hornets (1-1) opened their 2019 season by splitting two games at the Longwood (Va.) Invitational last weekend, falling to Robert Morris 7-1 before pulling out a 4-3 victory over Norfolk State.

Freshman outfielder Alexis Roberson led the Hornets with three hits in six at bats (.500), while rookie catcher Jaelyn Baker was two-for-four (.500) in last week's opening games.

Freshman Tiffany Diao was two-for-six at the plate (.333) and recorded two of the Hornets' three RBI last weekend. She also posted a save in the victory over Norfolk State.

Newcomer Brianna Baker, a transfer from UMBC, started both games for DSU last weekend, allowing six runs and 13 hits, with six strikeouts and three walks in nine innings (6.00 era).

The Hornets were also pretty solid in the field in their first two games, committing just one error in 58 chances in the field.
