DOVER, DE --The Delaware State Hornets won a close one on Wednesday, edging the Lincoln (PA) Lions by the score of 4-1.
Allyson Fonollosa (1-0) got the win for Delaware State (18-16). The right-hander went seven innings, giving up one run on seven hits, allowing one walk, and striking out six.
Offensively, the Hornets were paced by Chandler Martin, who went 2-for-3 on the day with a double. Karly Cain compiled a noteworthy performance at the plate as well, going 1-for-1 with a walk and an RBI. Destiny Mitchell also contributed for Delaware State, putting together two hits in four trips to the plate.
HOW IT HAPPENED
The Hornets put runs on the scoreboard first, starting the scoring in the fourth inning. Nevaeh Terrell came across to score the lone run of the inning for Delaware State and get them on the board.
The Lions failed to push any runs across before the Hornets offense got back to their scoring ways the next inning. Cain's run-scoring single highlighted an inning where Delaware State scored twice, which brought the Hornets lead to 3-0.
Lincoln (PA) narrowed Delaware State's lead to 3-1 before the Hornets stretched the advantage to 4-1 in the sixth inning. The score remained 4-1 for the rest of the game, as Delaware State held on for the win.

DOVER, DE --The Delaware State Hornets earned a win in walk-off fashion, responding to score one in the bottom of the seventh after Lincoln (PA) tied it up in the top half, sealing the victory on Annalisse Santana's double to knock off the Lions 6-5 Wednesday.
Rhyannon Stanley (1-0) got the win for Delaware State (20-16). The right-hander went three innings, giving up one run on one hit, allowing three walks, and striking out three.
In the batter's box, the Hornets were led by Jaylyn Slater, who went 2-for-2 on the day with a triple and an RBI. Santana put together a noteworthy day at the plate as well, going 1-for-2 with a double, two walks, and an RBI. Nevaeh Terrell also chipped in for Delaware State, putting together two hits in three trips to the plate while adding a walk and an RBI.
HOW IT HAPPENED
The Hornets were trailing 1-0 in the second inning when they first put runs on the board. Delaware State scratched across a run off Breylin Gamble when Slater tripled in Terrell.
The score stayed at 1-1 until the very next inning, when the Hornets put runs on the scoreboard once again. Destiny Mitchell came across to score the lone run of the inning for Delaware State, which brought the score to 2-1 in favor of the Hornets.
Delaware State kept Lincoln (PA) without a run before expanding their lead to 3-1 the following inning.
Delaware State held the Lions without a run before their offense got back to their scoring ways the next inning. Terrell's run-scoring single brought home one run in a two-run output for the Hornets, bringing the Delaware State advantage to 5-1.
Lincoln (PA) then rallied to tie the ballgame at 5-5 before Delaware State walked it off in the bottom of the seventh on Santana's two-out RBI double.
