Washington, DC (Nov. 8, 2019) --- Defending MEAC champ and Northern Division leader Howard completed a regular season of Delaware State with a 3-0 volleyball victory over the Hornets at Burr Gym this evening. The scores were 25-8, 25-22 and 25-14.
The Bison defeated DSU for the 14th straight meeting to improve to 14-12 overall and 11-1 in the MEAC. The Hornets fell to 10-17 and 5-7.
DSU also fell to one game behind Maryland-Eastern Shore for fourth place in the North standings. The Hawks defeated Norfolk State 3-1 this evening.
The top four teams in the MEAC Northern and Southern divisions qualify for the post-season conference championship tournament.
Howard's Kailyn Williams led all players with 12 kills on 22 attacks (.455). The Bison also posted a .455 hitting percentage as a team, tallying 47 kills and 12 errors on 77 attacks,
Jordan Vang (fr.) was Delaware State's leader with six kills.
As a team, the Hornets recorded 20 kills and 10 errors on 63 attempts (.159).
In the opening set, Howard eight of the first 10 points and was never seriously threatened.
DSU presented a tougher challenge for the Bison in set two. There were 10 ties in the set. The Hornets trailed 12-8 before scoring seven of the next eight points to open up a 15-13 lead.
Howard scored the last three points in the second set after the Hornets forced a 22-22 tie.
Delaware State never led in the third set. The Bison led 6-1 in the early going and the Hornets could get no closer the rest of the set.
DSU plays its final regular season road match at Norfolk State, while Maryland-Eastern Shore visits Howard on Sunday.
The Hornets will close at the regular season at home against Coppin State on Nov. 15 and Morgan State on Nov. 17.
