The Game
The new-look Delaware State Lady Hornets tip off the 2019-20 season at home against Lehigh of the Div. I Patriot League. DSU, under second-year head coach Dave Caputo, has just two returning letterwinners and 11 newcomers after posting a 7-21 overall record and 5-11 mark in the Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference during the 2018-19 season. Caputo expects the Lady Hornets to feature a more balanced attack this season after the graduation of NaJai Pollard, the team's all-time leading scorer (1,988 points) and rebounder (1,033), who led the team in scoring in each of the last three years. The Lady Hornets' top returning player this season is senior guard Lanayjha Ashe, a preseason All-MEAC Third Team selection. Ashe was second of the team and 10th in the MEAC in scoring at 13.0 points per game during the 2018-19 season. She also led the Lady Hornets in assists and three-point field goals a year ago. Among the newcomers, eight are either Div. I or junior college transfers. Delaware State's newcomer class has been listed by national recruiting publications as No. 1 in the MEAC for the 2019-20 season. Forwards Tierra Floyd (gr.; Xavier Univ.) and Zoe Holmes (jr.; Cisco CC), along with guards Janasia Law (jr.; Sante Fe CC) and Sharajah Collins (jr.; Hillsborough CC) highlight the list of DSU newcomers this season.

Lehigh has been picked to finish first in the 2019-20 Patriot League regular season race. The Mountain Hawks were 21-10 overall and 12-6 in the Patriot League last season. Lehigh senior guard Camryn Buhr has been selected to the 2019-20 All-Patriot League Team. Buhr was an all-league first team pick last season after leafing the team in scoring at 12.9 points per game and in rebounding at 6.8 per contest.

The Series
This will be the third meeting between the teams since the 2015-16 season. Lehigh won the last meeting 91-80 in Bethlehem on Nov. 16, 2016. The Mountain Hawks also came out on  top the last time the teams met at Delaware State, posting an 83-49 victory on Nov. 23, 2015.
