HORNETS WRAP UP ROAD SWING WITH CAROLINA VISIT

Dover, Del. (Oct. 17, 2019) --- The Delaware State volleyball team closes out a string of five straight road contests with MEAC matches at North Carolina Central on Friday (6:00 p.m.) and North Carolina A&T this Sunday (1:00 p.m.).  The Hornets enter the weekend with an 8-13 overall record and 3-3 mark in the MEAC.

NC Central is 3-18 and 2-4, while NCA&T is 8-12 and 6-0 beginning the weekend action.

Delaware State, playing for the third time in three nights, suffered a 3-1 loss to Maryland-Eastern Shore in its most recent outing last Tuesday.

Statistically, the Hornets are second in the MEAC in hitting percentage and service aces. DSU has a team hitting percentage of .192, second only to NCA&T (.192).

The Hornets have 144 aces in 78 sets for a 1.85 per set average, trailing only MDES in the category (2.10) among conference teams this season.

Individually, Delaware State's Sydney Lewis (fr.) and Sydney Armbrister (gr.) are second and third, respectively, in attack percentage in the MEAC.

Lewis has a .319 hitting percentage, tallying 105 kills and 38 errors on 210 attacks, while Armbrister has 107 kills and 36 errors on 236 attempts for a .301 percentage this season.

In addition, Lewis is No. 2 in the conference in blocks at 0.94 per set (58 total).  

DSU libero Jasmal Cruz (fr.) is the MEAC leader in services aces at 0.49 per set (37 total), while Hornet setter Jelena Dukic (jr.) setter is No. 2 in the league at 8.30 assists per set.     

Cruz also ranks ninth in the league at 3.72 digs per set.

Delaware State also features two of the MEAC's top 10 attackers. Anadys Valentin (fr.) is seventh in the league in kills (2.92 per set), while Ryanne Burnett (fr.) is ninth at 2.71.

DSU's Jordan Vang (fr.) is just outside the MEAC's top 10 in kills at 2.39 per set.

Burnett and Vang are two-time MEAC Rookies-of-the-Week, while Valentin was the first recipient of the award this season.

Dukic was selected the MEAC Setter-of-the-Week on Oct. 8.
