LADY HORNETS FALL TO BISON DESPITE THEIR QUICK START

Washington, D.C. (Jan. 26) --- Delaware State loses 78-62 to Howard in their Saturday afternoon match up. The Lady Hornets drop to 3-15 on the season and 1-6 in conference play.

Delaware State raced out to a 6-0 lead, as NaJai Pollard scored on the first three possessions of the game. Also, the Lady Hornets used 2-3 zone instead of their normal man to man defense, which contributed to Howard's slow start.  Howard used a 10- 4 run to tie the game up at 10. However, the Lady Hornets took a 19-16 lead after the first quarter of play. Lanayjha Ashe and NaJai Pollard scored eight points each during the period.

Delaware State went ice cold during the second quarter shooting just 25 percent from the floor. They did make five free throws, but their poor shooting from the field lead to Howard taking the lead 33-31 at the half.

NaJai Pollard sat out most of the second quarter with foul trouble.

Howard guard Sarah Edmond hit a three pointer with 6:12 left in the third quarter to extend their lead to seven at 43-36.

She lead four Bison in double digits with 20 points.

The Bison took a double-digit lead with 3:54 left in the third quarter after a layup was made by their lead guard Ayonna Williams, and they would hold a ten-point lead 59-49 after three quarters.

They would not let up in the fourth as the Bison outscored the Lady Hornets 19-13. They took their largest lead at 16 with 1:09 left in the game and that is the margin that they would win by.

Delaware State shot 20-of-56 (35.7%) from the field and just 3-of-12 (25.0%) on three-point attempts. They also were 19-of-31 (61.3%) from the free throw line.

NaJai Pollard led the team with 23 points.

Lanayjha Ashe added 17 points and five assists.

Howard made 26-of-66 (39.4%) of their field goal attempts and 7-of-25 (28.0%) from beyond-the-arc. They converted on 19-of-25 (76.0%) free throw attempts.
