Dover, Del. (May 1, 2017) --- Delaware State second baseman Jasmine Melgoza (fr.) has been honored by the Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference for her play last week.
Melgoza was selected today as the MEAC Softball Rookie-of-the-Week after collecting eight hits in 15 at bats for a .533 average in four games, hitting safely in each contest.
The Huntington Beach, Cal., native was 6-for-10 with four runs scored and two RBI in the Hornets' doubleheader split with the University of Delaware on Apr. 25. She had four hits in five at bats, scoring three runs and driving in one, in DSU's 13-8 victory in the opener.
For the season, Melgoza is third on the Hornets with a .287 average. She is tops on the team with 41 hits and third in total bases with 50.
The Hornets will return to action at the 2017 MEAC Softball Tournament May 10-14 in Ormond Beach, Fla.
