WBB: LADY HORNETS FALL TO MEAC FOE SAVANNAH STATE

Savannah, Ga.--- Savannah State got the better of Delaware State in the second half en route to a 64-57 win over the Lady Hornets at Tiger Arena this evening. The loss gives DSU a split of its two-game road swing and drops the Lady Hornets to 2-17 overall and 1-4 in the MEAC. The Tigers won their fourth in a row to improve to 6-13 overall and 4-3 in conference play.

Delaware State's NaJai Pollard scored seven points in the first quarter, giving the Hornets a one-point lead heading into the second quarter. Pollard would finish the game with her 12th double-double of the season. She had a game high 18 points and 11 rebounds.

The Lady Hornets found themselves down 31-26 heading into halftime, due to the Tigers scoring eight points off eight second quarter turnovers by the Hornets.

SSU finished the game outscoring the Hornets 18-10 on points off turnovers.

Mikah Aldridge scored eight of the Hornets 12 points in the second quarter, including back-to-back threes to end the first half.

Aldridge ended the game with 12 points, including three made three-point field goals.

Savannah State went on a 10-0 run to take a 54-39 lead heading into the final quarter.

The Tigers took a 17-point lead with 6 minutes remaining in the fourth quarter, their largest lead of the night.

Delaware State went on a 12-2 run to cut the deficit to four, 61-57 with 20 seconds remaining in the game.

The Tigers made three straight free throws to put the game away.

Rhianna Warren led four Tigers in double figures. Warren finished with 15 points on the night. Kenyata Hendrix and Tiyonda Davis added 12, and 11 points respectively. Lauren Moss chipped in with 10 points.

Delaware State connected on 18-of-57 field goals (31.6%), including 7-17 from three-point range (41.7%).

Savannah State was  22-for-61 from the floor (36.1%), but only 4-of-17 on three-point attempts (23.5%).

The Tigers outscored the Lady Hornets 28-12 in points in the paint.

DSU will begin its three game homestand against Florida A&M Jan. 28. Tip-off at 2 p.m.
