(Dover, Del.) – Tuesday evening – in what was the finale of a three-game stretch over a five-day period – the Delaware State women's soccer team (2-5-1) could not overcome a first half one-score deficit, as the visiting American Eagles (3-5) scooted past the Hornets with a 1-0 victory.
With this loss, DSU dropped to 0-4 all-time against the Eagles, while American rebounded from a 2-1 loss at Howard last Friday.
In the first half, the match remained scoreless until American midfielder Marley Jennings made a pass from the right wing to a streaking Alexandra Taylor (1). As a result, DSU's Michele Lammers was unable to come away with a save, as Taylor scored during the 41st minute.
The second stanza, meanwhile, featured the Hornets tallying seven of their game-high 10 shots, including a favorable attempt by freshman Taylor Love during the 79th minute. Nevertheless, AU's Charlene Belanger denied Love for one of her a game-high three saves.
At game's end, the Eagles recorded three shot attempts, whereas DSU owned the corner kick advantage at 4-3. As for the foul count, both squads combined for 28 infractions, including 17 by American.
Coming up, the Columbia Blue & Red will wrap up their season-long four-game homestand later this week on Friday (7 p.m.) against UMBC.
