Dover, Del. (July 24, 2015) --- Former Delaware State basketball stars Kendall Gray and Tyshawn Bell have taken their talents to European professional leagues.
Gray recently signed a contract to compete for medi Bayreuth of Beko BBL, the highest domestic basketball league in Germany. Earlier this month, Bell inked a deal with WBC Raiffeisen Wels, a team in the Austrian professional league.
Gray was selected as the 2014-15 MEAC Player-of-the-Year and Defensive Player-of-the-Year, joining current NBA standout Kyle O'Quinn (Norfolk State) as the only MEAC players to achieve the feat.
A Dover native and former Polytech High School (Del.) standout, Gray was tops in the MEAC and tied for first among NCAA Division I players in rebounding at 11.8 per game last season. He also led the league and ranked 15th in the nation in blocks at 2.8 per contest.
Gray attracted national attention when he became the first player in recorded NCAA Division I history to reach 30 points and 30 rebounds in a game. He scored a career-high 33 points and grabbed 30 rebounds in the Hornets' 104-92 victory at Coppin State on Mar. 5.
Delaware State's career leader with 305 blocks, Gray also holds the top three Hornet records for blocks in a season.
Gray is sixth on DSU's career list with 821 rebounds; and is a member of the team's 1000-point club (1,020 career points).
Gray competed for the NBA Detroit Pistons' summer league team this month.
Bell, also of Dover, ranks third on the school's all-time list with 205 three-point field goals. He's also 13th in team history with 1,198 points.
Prior to joining the Hornets, Bell was a standout at Caesar Rodney High School in Camden, Del.
