(Washington, DC.) – The Delaware State softball team (1-11) concluded its three-game road series against the George Washington Colonials (8-8) with a tough 2-1 loss Wednesday afternoon, despite freshman Vanessa Washington cutting the deficit in half in the final frame with a two-out RBI-double.
However, GW's Sarah Costlow (6-6) forced a Dominique Little infield pop out in the following at-bat, extending DSU's losing skid to seven. Suffering the defeat for the Hornets, meanwhile, was sophomore Tara Tursellino (1-8), who surrendered four hits, three walks, no earned runs and tallied four K's.
Earlier in the week against Colonials, the Hornets dropped both games in Monday's doubleheader, 4-3 and 5-0. Game one featured DSU knotting the contest at three in the seventh with a Jordan Stamps two-out RBI-double, but GW won the game later in the frame with a Megan Linn RBI-double of her own. Game two, on the other hand, saw the Colonials score of their runs in the opening inning off freshman Jessica Shalongo (0-3), including a solo homer and two RBI-doubles.
Coming up, the Columbia Blue & Red will be in action this weekend with UD's Spring Invitational. Along with facing the Blue Hens, DSU will take on Villanova, Cornell and Saint Francis (PA).
