THE GAME
The Hornets (11-13; 5-4 MEAC) take on the impressive UMES Hawks in a battle of top five MEAC teams. Delaware State, currently fifth in the MEAC standings, snapped a four-game losing streak with a 90-74 win over Florida A&M in its most recent outing last Monday. Tyshawn Bell scored a career-high 23 points and recorded his third collegiate double-double with 12 rebounds in the contest. He also tied his career-best with five three-point field goals (5-9). Amere May led the Hornets with 24 points and five assists, while Kendal Williams had 12 points in the game.  Delaware State tied a team record with 14 three-point field goals in the contest (14-29). The Hornets also had 17 assists and just nine turnovers in the game.  May is second in the MEAC in scoring at 18.3 points per-game, while DSU center Kendall Gray continues to lead all NCAA Div. I players in rebounding at 12.7 per contest.  

UMES (14-12; 7-4 MEAC), picked 11th in the 2014-15 MEAC preseason poll, is currently third in the conference race. The Hawks posted a statement win in their last outing, pounding second place Norfolk State 82-64 on the road last Monday. Devin Martin led four UMES players in double figures with 25 points, highlighted by three three-point field goals. Michael Myers contributed 18 points (7-11 FGs) and  a game-high 13 rebounds to the win. The Hawks trailed 37-36 at the half, but outscored Norfolk State 46-27 in the final 20 minutes. UMES was 18-or-29 from the field (.621), including four-of-eight from  three-point territory in the second half.  Myers is sixth in the MEAC in scoring (15.6 pg) and ninth in rebounding (7.2 pg); while Martin is 11th in the league in scoring (13.5 ppg) this season.

DSU vs. UMES SERIES HISTORY (DSU leads 53-48)
This is the first of two scheduled meetings between the Hornets and Hawks this season. DSU and UMES have split their last 10 contests, although the Hornets hold a 53-48 lead in the series. The teams split two meetings last season, with each winning on its home court. Delaware State won the first 2013-14 meeting 84-71. Tyshawn Bell led the Hornets with 16 points, while Kendall Gray had 15 points and 10 rebounds in the contest. UMES bounced back to win last year's second meeting 84-70. Four Hornets reached double figures in scoring in the contest. Bell had 18 points, highlighted by our three-point field goals (4-7), while Gray recorded another double-double with 13 points and 11 rebounds. The Hornets and Hawks are scheduled to meet again on Feb. 28 at DSU's Memorial Hall.
